We hope you find this information about our counseling services helpful! If you have a question that is not answered below, please do not hesitate to call (314) 909-9922 and ask to speak to a Clinical Coordinator.
They range in age from 3 ½ to 18 for group counseling. Younger children can be seen in individual and family counseling.
For most families, getting started consists of the following:
1. A brief telephone interview with the Clinical Coordinator.
2. A parent session with an Intake Therapist.
3. A separate child(ren) session on a different day (with the same therapist).
4. Services for children and/or parents begin after these initial interviews are finished.
When possible, we encourage both parent’s involvement throughout the process.
We use a sliding-scale based on income and ability to pay. Most families qualify for reduced fees. No one is turned away based on ability to pay for services.
Kids In The Middle is not in-network with any insurance providers; however, some insurance policies cover our services. It is up to the parent to call the insurance provider and ask if they will cover our services. If you opt to use insurance, keep in mind that you pay the full rate to Kids In The Middle at the time of service, and are reimbursed by your insurance company later.
For children’s services, one parent is responsible for payment. For services that require both parent’s participation, such as co-parenting counseling, each parent is responsible for his or her half of their assigned fee.
Treatment is most effective when supported by both parents. Unless you have sole legal custody, both parents must be informed about their child’s involvement with Kids In The Middle. If consent is not obtained from both parents, we cannot proceed with services for your child. Even if you do have sole legal custody, we suggest that you inform the other parent. It prevents your child from being “in the middle” by keeping secrets from the other parent.
We encourage both parent’s involvement when possible. While we can arrange separate sessions for each, both parents may be asked to attend together if it is helpful to the child(ren).
Treatment begins with a child’s legal guardian(s). Other adults important to the child are often a valuable source of information and insight. With both parent’s consent, others may also be included in treatment at a time when the therapist feels that their participation will be most helpful to the child’s progress.
Kids In The Middle does not provide childcare while you meet with your therapist or attend group sessions.
Your child’s therapist will meet with you periodically to review your family’s service plan, goals and progress.
All information shared with Kids In The Middle is kept strictly confidential. Unless there are safety concerns, information disclosed is not shared among family members, the courts, or other involved parties. KITM does not testify in court, does not provide custody evaluations, forensic evaluations or release records. In this way, KITM remains a safe place for ALL members of the family to discuss issues of concern and work on positive outcomes for parents and their children.
The length and type of services vary from family to family. From experience, we know that children tend to be most successful when both parents take an active role in their child’s treatment.
Regular, consistent attendance is an important part of treatment. If it becomes necessary to miss a session, advance notice is needed. Absences are charged at the full rate unless 24 hours notice is given. For children’s groups, all absences are charged at the full rate except that one group session every three months may be missed without charge. Clients may be withdrawn from services as a result of inconsistent attendance or persistent tardiness.
