History and Introduction

In 1977 a St. Louis social worker named Kim Long started Kids In The Middle® (KITM) after discovering that children of divorce adjusted much better when they were able to share their grief and feelings with other children in small groups. Kids In The Middle® incorporated in 1979 as a not-for-profit organization, and continued to expand its individual, family and group counseling services. Currently the agency serves over 1,300 children and their families per year at its Kirkwood and St. Peters locations, in local schools and through the family court system. KITM has grown to a staff of 23 committed professionals. Kids In The Middle® also provides community education throughout the year and runs several court programs for families in transition. Throughout its 33-year history, the agency has maintained its strong commitment to children experiencing grief and loss related to separation and divorce. It is because of the dedicated staff and contributors that Kids In The Middle has been able to help thousands of families over its 33 years in operation.
